At Tiger Chemical Treatment (Pty) Ltd (TCT), our motto is to provide our clients with safe and compliant methods for the disposal of hazardous liquid waste streams. TCT operates according to the highest standards of environmental, as well as health and safety legislation.
Our site is authorised in terms of the following:
The National Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) – now known as the National Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) – issued a Waste Management Licence (WML) to TCT to allow for the current hazardous waste recovery and treatment activities on the site of works. The authorised waste management activities are listed in terms of Government Notice R.921, dated 29 November 2013, of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 59 of 2008) (NEM: WA) (amended). (DFFE Reference Number: 12/9/11/L191016095640/3/R).
TCT is registered as a waste storage facility in terms of the NEM: WA National Norms and Standards for the Storage of Waste (GN R.926, dated 29 November 2013) (DFFE Registration Numbers: 12/9/11/ST220/3 and 12/9/11/ST397/3).
TCT possesses an Atmospheric Emission Licence (AEL) in terms of GN R.893, dated 22 November 2013 (as amended), which has been promulgated in terms of Section 21 of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, 2004 (Act No. 39 of 2004) (NEM: AQA) (as amended) (DFFE Reference Number: AEL/GP/TCT/02/03/2020-3464).
TCT is registered on the Gauteng Waste Information System (GWIS) and undertakes monthly reporting.
An effective Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management System is maintained at TCT. Independent audits and inspections are carried out regularly by experienced and qualified EHS consultants, Approved Inspection Authorities (AIAs) and Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAPs). Detailed inspection and monitoring schedules are maintained by the site.
Stormwater from the site is contained and is not discharged to the environment at any stage. Nearby stream water is also sampled and tested regularly. Monitoring boreholes are sampled once every six months by independent professionals and sent for full analysis. The results of the stream and borehole monitoring are reported in internal checklists.
